Held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, Germany won over Uruguay placing third in the World Cup 2010 with a final score of 3-2.
Germany was the first one to make a successful goal in the 19th minute through Mueller. It was a great goal for Germany. Schweinsteiger, captain for the evening, hit a goal bound shot from a distance but Muslera could only parry the ball into the path of the onrushing Mueller who made no mistake from ten yards. It was the young German’s fifth goal of the tournament. With that goal, Germany led the game.

However, Germany’s lead did not last when Uruguay scored a successful goal during the 28th minute through Cavani. Perez tackled Schweinsteiger in midfield and played the ball to Suarez. He in turn, fed Cavani who latched on to the ball before slotting it past Butt. With this goal, Uruguay leveled with Germany at a score of 1-1 at the first half of the game.
Just few minutes after the second half of the game kicked off, Uruguay continued its lead over Germany as it made its second successful goal through Forlan in the 51st minute. Arevalo Rios put in a great ball from the right and his volley bounced into the ground, deceiving Butt and hitting the back of the net.
Germany was able to catch up with Uruguay’s lead just five minutes after that through Jansen. Boateng put a ball into the box which Muslera failed to deal with and Jansen was gifted with an opportunity to head the ball into the net with the goal keeper stranded. That was a score of 2-2 and the two teams were tie once again.
The last and final successful goal went to Germany in the 82nd minute through Khedira. Ozil’s corner from the right was not cleared by the Uruguayan defense. In fact, Lugano attempted clearance merely teed up Khedira who headed the ball home. That was a lead for Germany as the scores were not at 3-2.
Uruguay tried their best to score another goal but Germany did not let it until the whistle was heard in the 93rd minute marking the end of the match. Congratulations to Germany as they were able to secure themselves a third place at the FIFA World Cup 2010.
